bulletnew-sign.gif (938 bytes) Korean War period model made by MA (Mangrovite) and dated 1 '52.  Excellent wood grips marked Slaz 51.  Excellent fullered blade with about 95% bluing remaining.  Excellent leather scabbard marked MA 52.  Only about 45k bayonets were made.

Herder) with Austrian eagle and GF inspection marking on the ricasso.  Regimentally marked 84.R.4756 on the quillion.  Very nice checkered leather grips with leaf spring release.  Very nice shortened sword blade with no sharpening.  Metal scabbard with about 90% black paint remaining.

BELGIUM

bulletVery similar to the French 1866 Chassepot bayonet except that this piece has a more rounded pommel and the leaf spring is secured by a screw versus a rivet.  Marked with inspection marking and 1869 date on the blade ricasso with matching serial number 3764 on the crossguard and scabbard top fitting.  Very nice fullered yataghan blade with some staining and no sharpening.  Excellent leather scabbard with brass fittings.

Belgium 1889 Infantry Bayonet (Ref1,No.2,page17, Ref3,ABC237,page173) Rarity: R3
bullet new-sign.gif (938 bytes)  Nice wood grips held by two spanner nuts with nice finish remaining on the handle.  Fullered blade with staining and light sharpening.  Metal scabbard with nice finish remaining with some dings on the back side.  Matching serial numbers H 5513 on the crossguard and frog stud with B 2869 on the other side of the crossguard.  Brown Czech frog with no markings.  Very scarce bayonet which is hard to find.

bulletWood grips held by two screws with about 70% black paint remaining.  Left side of the pommel has serial number 1403.  Blade with black paint on the first ~1" with staining, wear and rounded tip.  No scabbard.

BRAZIL

bulletMade in Brazil by 'F.P.D.F' (Force Publique du District Federal) and has Brazilian coat of arms stamped on the blade.  Worn wood grips held by two rivets and has a serial number 3164 on the crossguard.  No scabbard.  This was the last yataghan bayonet ever made and was issued to the National Police Force.

CHINA

Chinese 1980s Special Forces Knife (no reference) chin80knife-police2a.jpg (200509 bytes) Rarity: R3
bullet Rare Chinese state security forces knife.  Has Chinese star and serial number D82985 on blade.  Excellent condition overall and comes with original box from the 1980s.  Listed in 'The Military Knife & Bayonet' by Homer Brett, this unique item was produced in small numbers & most were destroyed by the Chinese government.  The blade is pulled out by pressing the release button near the end of the handle.  The knife is closed by inserting the cap & spring into the knife opening and pushing the front button to release the blade.  It hangs on the belt so the user can easily take it out ready to use.

bulletNo maker markings on the blade.  Wood grips held by two rivets.  Nice T-backed blade with staining and no sharpening.  Marked with serial number 101179 on the crossguard with regimental number 25.B.933 on the pommel.  Nice brown leather scabbard which is missing its lower fitting.

FRANCE

French 1866 Chassepot Bayonet Model  (Ref1,No.1,page68) Rarity: R1+
bulletMade by Chatellerault and dated 1866 which was the 1st year of production with only about 10,000 bayonets made.  Nice brass handle with patina on crossguard and rivet in the 2nd rib (versus 3rd rib) near crossguard which was only done during the 1st year.  Crossguard serial numbered A 3825.  Nice yataghan fullered blade with some staining and light sharpening.  Metal scabbard with little finish remaining with patina with serial number AB 77082 on the throat.  Very rare 1st year production.

bulletMarked with the Hungarian shield on the crossguard and scabbard frog stud.  Crossguard marked A-1850.  Nice wood handle with hooked quillion, lanyard ring and later war rifle site.  About 70% bluing remaining on the blade with some light pitting on the tip.  Nice metal scabbard with about 40% green paint remaining.

bulletA rare 1925 MVSN (Milizia Voluntaria Sicurezza National) knife with Truppe Speciali bayonet 4-sided cruciform style blade.  First issued to Colonial Militia Officers, then to musketeers, finally to Italian Libyan Paratroopers during WW2.  Very nice wood grips with MSVN emblem on both sides.  Marked with MSVN on one side of the crossguard and serial number F796 on the other side.  Very nice cruciform blade and metal scabbard with belt loop.

Japanese Rectangular Guard Bayonet w/Rounded Muzzle Ring (Ref1,No.3,page136, #104Johnsons) bayonet2-414.jpg (99770 bytes) (closeup) (closeup) (closeup) Rarity: R3
bulletSimilar to the standard type 30 bayonet except that the crossguard is a thick rectangular piece of metal that is rounded off at muzzle ring end.  Made by Toyada Automatic Loom Works.  Very nice slab wood grips which are riveted with a squared off pommel which has a serial number 4358.  Rectangular blued crossguard with rounded muzzle ring.  Very nice blued unfullered slab blade with no sharpening.  Nice blued metal scabbard with a crease on the back side.  Rare model variation.

bulletThe blade is from a Dutch 1895 Cavalry bayonet with a Japanese handle with thin crossguard and muzzle ring. Excellent wood handle held by two rivets with about 75% blued finish remaining.  Excellent double edged unfullered blued blade with about 95% finish remaining.  Matching arsenal markings on the handle and scabbard.  Excellent leather scabbard with leather retaining strap.  This is a very hard bayonet to find especially in this near unissued condition.

bulletMarked on one side of blade 'Fernandes Mexico' and other side 'Made in Mexico'.  Brown and tan bone or Onyx handle.  Bowie style blade with some light peppering overall.  Leather sheath with some tearing near belt loop on back side and some staples were added near tip.  From the 1940-1950s.  Overall length is 12.25" with a blade length of 8.5".

bulletnew-sign.gif (938 bytes)  1880-81 modified model (called the Artillery 2nd pattern) made by Enfield and dated 9 '81.  Nice hard rubber grips held by 4 rivets with a piece of rubber missing on the left grip.   Serial numbered '27' on the crossguard.  Nice fullered sawback blade with peppering overall and light sharpening.  Very nice leather scabbard with some crazing overall.  Only 2100 were made.

POLAND

Polish WZ 1924 Bayonet (Ref1,No.3,page160, Ref3,ABC260,page186) Rarity: R2
bullet   Made by Perkun with W.P. on the other side of blade.  No muzzle ring and no WZ marking on pommel and with flashguard.  Very nice fullered blade with no sharpening with about 95% blued finish remaining.  Blade marked 232925.  Nice 98k scabbard made by S/172, dated 1940 with serial number 1402h with several dings on the front and most finish remaining.

Pack dated 1939 with serial number 5605g.

RUSSIA

bulletA very rare short 1895 model was made which looks like a US 1895 Lee model (~10,000 were made but were not accepted by the Russians).  The 7.62mm rifle was produced for Russia and a 6mm Winchester rifle was made for the US.  Very nice wood grips and bottom of crossguard is marked 'Winchester Repeating Arms Co'.  Versus the US model, the Russian model has a larger muzzle ring diameter (16mm vs. 13mm) and the mortise slot is wider.  Very nice fullered blade with some light sharpening.  Leather scabbard with metal fittings and type 1 metal belt attachment.  Very rare bayonet.

SPAIN

bullet No markings.  Brass handle with very unique long straight crossguard and the muzzle ring sits right on the handle and blade.  Marked '76' on the right crossguard.  Very long blade with machete-style tip with sharpening.  No scabbard.  Very rare bayonet.

SWEDEN

bulletHold  Manufactured by EJAB (Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB, Eskilstuna, Sweden).  Excellent wood grips held by 2 screws with a rectangular release catch.  Excellent blade was double edged with no fuller and no sharpening.  Excellent metal scabbard with central groove on both sides.  Brown leather frog.

SWITZERLAND

bulletMade by HS (possibly for Hans Steimer) with Swiss cross underneath.  Nice wood handle held by two rivets with patina overall.  Serial number 58298 on crossguard.  Excellent sawback blade with swelled tip with fuller on one side only.  Very nice metal scabbard with about 80% bluing remaining.

bulletVery nice brass handle with working attachment ring on the back of handle and working release knob on the crossguard.  Crossguard marked 'A 84'.  Long yataghan blade that has been rough cleaned with staining, sharpening and rounded tip.  No scabbard.  Only 1646 bayonets were made in only year of production in 1855.

Potts of New Orleans around 1861.  It was unclear whether these were used on a rifle or used on a wood shaft as a pike.  These pieces are very unusual with a dark wood handle with two brass muzzle rings.  Very nice brass hardware and wood grips with some of the black paint remaining.  Nice bowie style blade with staining and patina.  No scabbard.  Very rare Civil War period knife.

bulletMarked US on right side of blade and 1900 on left.  Nice handle with some light patina.  Bowie shaped blade with heavy sharpening and nick on edge near tip.  Nice metal scabbard with light patina.  Needs a good cleaning.  Only 2,818 were made in the Springfield Armory.  Very rare bayonet.

US 1905 Bayonet (Ref1,No.2,page221, Ref3,ABC551,page46) Rarity: R2
bullet  Made by SA (Springfield Armory) and is dated 1907 with serial number 78116.  Nice wood grips with about 25% finish remaining on handle.  Nice fullered bright blade with about 25% blued finish remaining with some staining and pitting near the tip.  Type 2 leather scabbard marked RIA, 1911, HEK with leather separating on the edges and tip.  Bayonet is in VG condition and the scabbard in VG- condition.

bulletA very rare 1909-10 experimental leather covered aluminum scabbard.  Very nice condition overall with no markings.  No rivet on the top fitting which was normal on this scabbard.  The bottom of the scabbard has the easily recognized 'squeezed-in' tip and no drain hole.  Only several hundred of these were made.  These are very rare.

Made by Camillus - Becker Knife & Tool.  This is the black & green set designed without wirecutters (scabbard not made with release tab to lock wirecutters in place).  Hard use carbon steel blade with black epoxy coating which was partially serrated, spear shape to penetrate body armor.  All canvas belt attachment w/2 straps around exposed scabbard and 2 straps holding bayonet.  Unissued mint condition.  Set has not been removed from brand new in plastic bag (photos of bayonet outside of bag are for example only).  Designed for the XM8 lightweight assault rifle system that was under development by the US Army from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. It was anticipated that the XM8 would become the Army's new standard infantry rifle but the project was put on hold in mid 2005 and was formally cancelled in October, 2005.
