bulletHold   Looks exactly like the standard Prussian 1871 Foot Artillery bayonet but is made in Saxony for the Foot Artillery.  Made by Simson and Co, Suhl and is dated 1897 ('AR' over 1897).  Very nice brass handle with some patina with crossguard marked '12.R.A.F.5.24'.  Leather scabbard with no regimental markings and all stitches intact.  Very rare.

bullet   Made by Alex Coppel.  The pommel is unmodified and has no steps machined into the back of the handle.  Crossguard marked '13.J.R.12' on one side and '44592' on the other side.  Very nice blade has some light staining and no sharpening.  Very nice leather scabbard with no regimental markings'.

bullet  Made by Alex Coppel.  The pommel is unmodified and has no steps machined into the back of the handle.  Crossguard marked 'J.L.R.E.8' on one side and '25469' on the other side.  Blade has some staining, light pitting and has been sharpened.  Nice leather scabbard with some flaking of the leather and the bottom fitting is marked 'B.6.R.3.89'.  Patina overall and has never been cleaned.

bulletNo maker or date.  Dark wood grips with staining and patina on the handle with German inspection markings on the pommel.  Dark sawback blade with staining and rounded tip with no sharpening.  Leather scabbard with brass fittings with stitches intact marked '53.R.R.6.198'.  Brown WW1 leather frog with missing stitches along about 1" on left side from top rivet.  Needs a good cleaning.  Rare modification of the 1869 Werder bayonet for the Gewehr 98 rifle.  I only have seen one of these rare modification bayonets for sale over the past 25 years of collecting.

GERMAN WWI (Imperial) BAYONETS

German 1898 (Quillback) 1st and 2nd Pattern Bayonet (Ref1,No.1/2,page82)

bullet1st pattern, made by ROM (Soemmerda) and dated 1902 for Saxony.  Dark 1-piece wood grips with patina on the handle.  Crossguard marked '103.R.2.44'.  Blade has staining and sharpening.  Leather scabbard with all stitches intact with two creases.  Scabbard not regimentally marked.  Rare Saxon maker.

bullet1st pattern, made by Simson and date has been removed for Prussia.  Worn 1-piece wood grips with chicks and cracks and heavy patina on the handle.  Crossguard marked 'III.S.B.3.?' and numbered '5447' on the spine of handle.  Blade has heavy staining and light sharpening.  Leather scabbard with all stitches intact and patina on the fittings.  Needs a good cleaning.  Rare matching Navy bayonet.

Inspection marked on top spine of blade.  Fullered blade has staining and light sharpening and tip is rounded.  Metal scabbard with light pitting and no finish remaining.  Rare regimentally marked ersatz.

bulletHandle is very unusual with wood grips and is riveted to handle with a standard 98/05 bayonet.  The overall length of handle is 20mm shorter than standard 98/05 bayonet. Bayonet was made by Mauser with the date removed.  Press stud and mortise catch are missing.  Staining and patina overall.  No scabbard.  Very unusual ersatz.  This ersatz cannot be found in any reference.

German 1898/05 (Butcher) Reichswehr Bayonet (Ref1,No.2,page99, Ref3,ABC464,page309) Rarity: R2

Navy marked Reichswehr bayonets:

bulletReichswehr, 2nd pattern, low ears with flashguard made by Henckels and Anker Werke and dated 1917 for Prussia.  Very nice wood grips with staining on the handle with about 70% bluing remaining.  Crossguard marked 'O.7292' (East German Navy) and '1920' on the other side.  Nice blade with about 50% bluing remaining and sharpening.  Very nice metal scabbard with about 80% bluing remaining marked 'O.3609P' (and x'd out 'O.1989').  Very rare East Navy marked set.

bulletReichswehr, 84/98 with flashguard, made by Move-Werke dated 1915 for Prussia.  Very nice wood grips with patina and little blued finish left on handle and flashguard.  Crossguard marked '13/J.R.2.46' on one side and '1920' on the other side.  About 80% blued blade with sharpening.  Metal scabbard with little bluing remaining marked '1/J.P.8.285'.  Rare Reichswehr early Move-Werk bayonet.

bulletBlanko bayonet made by WKC with no date and no inspection markings.  Excellent wood grips with about 95% of blued finish on the handle and a checkered surface on the flashguard.  Very nice blade with about 95% bluing on the blade with no sharpening.  Metal scabbard with about 95% blued finish remaining and aluminum rivet at throat.  Could be post war refurbished model.  Very scarce bayonet in near un-issued condition.

bulletBrand new, never issued in original bag with instruction booklet.  Excellent plastic grips and handle with plastic capsule in handle.  Excellent wire-cutter blade and black plastic scabbard with attached belt attachment.  There were only 2000 of these bayonets produced.  Very rare bayonet in un-issued condition.

The pommel unscrews and reveals a small plastic capsule - inside capsule is one each 3mm, 4mm, 4.5 mm and 5 mm diameter split lead shot weights, two 10 mm long fish hooks, two 15 mm long fish hooks, two red over green flare matches, one green over red tip flare match, three iodine water purification tablets, two 40 mm long straight sewing needles and one sterile suture kit. The lid of the capsule contains a plastic magnifying lens and under a round leather plug in pommel there is monofilament fishing line. The blade itself has a protractor on one side and 5 cm scale on the other. The belt loop contains a piece of polished steel signaling mirror. It also comes with a small instruction booklet.

(blood and honor) and has the maker's name and logo which shows production was prior to 1937.  Very nice pressed steel scabbard with leather belt loop.
